Last Friday was my day off, so I took advantage of the whole day and went to see Burney! I left Florence early that morning and caught a train to Reggio Emilia. She met me at the train station and showed me all around her cute little town- I love Reggio! Unfortunately the weather was terrible, raining, windy, and freezing all day, but we barely even noticed. We spent the whole day walking around town, exploring, and of course, eating. We had the best lunch though! Tortelli is a typical dish from that region of Italy, kind of like ravioli, so we both ordered it. Mine was stuffed with spinach and ricotta, and Burney’s with pumpkin. Both were amazing! It was so great to spend the day with her and see a new Italian town. I took the last train back to Florence that night and got home around 11pm. Of course, every time I leave my friends I feel like we haven’t had enough time together, but I know there are more visits to come.
Sunday morning the whole family packed our bags and headed to the mountains for a few days. Tuesday was a holiday in Italy, so pretty much everyone takes Monday off too. When we got to town, it was freezing and everything was covered in snow. I stepped into the yard with the kids and the snow came up past my knees! The next day it rained and melted everything, so we never got a chance to ski. We got a lot done around the house though and by the time we left it really started to look and feel like a home. It’s been a long time since the last time I went skiing, so it was fun for me to put on snow gear and be out in the cold air.
We got home yesterday afternoon and got in the Christmas spirit! We played Christmas music (in Italian of course) and decorated the tree. I love this time of year! We’ll be heading back to the mountains this weekend, hopefully with some better weather.
